What's on in Crouch End this weekend: cinema, lido, playground, woods

Four things are reliably on in Crouch End at a weekend, and the two best of them are free. Our running guide to the films, the swim, the playground and the walk, with prices checked this week.

The lido shuts at four, which in October is the difference between a swim and a wasted bus fare.

A weekend in Crouch End does not need planning, but it rewards a little. Four things are dependably on: a film at the ArtHouse on Tottenham Lane, a swim indoors or outdoors at Park Road, the rebuilt playground in Priory Park, and a free guided walk in Highgate Wood. Everything below comes from the venue's own pages or the council's, checked on 1 October 2026. We update it as things change.

ArtHouse Crouch End

159A Tottenham Lane, N8. Weekend pricing also covers Friday evenings and bank holidays: £13 for adults and £11 for over-60s. Members get 25% off the listed prices, and booking online adds 60p a ticket. No separate weekend rate for under-25s or children is published, so ask at the counter before you assume one.

Two adults on a Saturday night is £26 before the booking fee, which is the point at which membership starts to look like arithmetic rather than loyalty. For a wet afternoon it is still the best room in N8.

Park Road Pools and Fitness

Park Road, Hornsey, N8. Open 8am to 5pm at weekends. The outdoor lido closes at 4pm. Indoor swimming is £7.60 for an adult and £2.90 for a junior; the lido is £9.95 and £5.30.

That Crouch End still has an open-air pool on an October Saturday is the single most underrated fact about the place. The lido shuts at four, which in October is the difference between a swim and a wasted bus fare, so go in the morning. Weekend lesson days and times are not published on the council's activities page; we set out the baby and toddler swimming options near Crouch End separately earlier this autumn.

Priory Park playground

Priory Park, N8. Free, open all weekend. The children's playground reopened on 25 July 2025 after a rebuild, with accessible play equipment, two multi-use units, an obstacle course, a zipwire, a trampoline, a springer, two play panels and two picnic benches.

The zipwire is the draw and the picnic benches are the reason adults agree to go. For a walking toddler through to a confident seven-year-old, this is the strongest free hour in the patch.

Highgate Wood guided walks

Meet at the information hut next to the café. Free. The walks run on a rotating selection of Saturdays and Sundays through autumn and winter rather than one fixed day a week, and most start at 11.30am. Check the listing for the day before you set off, because a wasted trip to the wood is a long one with a buggy.

It costs nothing, it is led by someone who knows what the trees are, and it ends near coffee. If you do one thing off this list, do this.

Crouch End Festival: not this weekend

The community festival has no 2026 dates. Its organisers say plans are being made and point instead to a Christmas event. One thing to keep straight: Crouch End Festival Chorus is a separate organisation with its own concert programme, and a choir date in the diary is not the festival returning.

How to choose

Raining: the ArtHouse, and buy the membership if this is your third visit of the year. Cold and dry: the wood in the morning, the café after. Small children: Priory Park, then home before the wind gets up. Serious about swimming: the lido before four, indoors after. Finished early: our guide to seven Crouch End and Hornsey pubs worth the walk still stands.

Details checked 1 October 2026. The one gap a resident would actually notice is at Park Road, where the council sets the prices and the opening hours but still does not post weekend lesson times anywhere a parent can find them. Why should a family have to ring a leisure centre to learn when the lessons are?
